Update from Romania

So, blue sky nine is on tour in Romania. We’re here working with a bunch of campuses in 8 cities – Bucharest, Brasov, Bacau, Iasi, Suceava, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, and Ploiesti. In each of those cities, we’re doing outreach shows. And in a few of them, we’re also doing music for conferences for Christian students, taking some time to challenge and encourage them in how they live out and share their faith.

It’s also an amazingly beautiful country – every town we’re in has an ‘old’ section where there are buildings, churches and streets that are older that anything in the U.S. Some cities represent centers of population that literally date back to the early 1st century.

And yeah, Dracula’s here too, but he wasn’t a vampire. That was all Bram Stoker’s fault.

Anyway… we’re not anywhere long enough to hear the ‘life chage’ stories that come from the follow-up conversations, but we’ll get more about that as we hear back from them in the days and weeks to come.

From a mental and physical standpoint, it’s been a whirlwind. Each city, staff team, and technical setup requires a little bit of adjusting. We want to serve our hosts well, so we don’t just blow in and do ‘our’ thing; we work to make our show and presentation fit in with what they’re already doing. Which is exhausting, but it means we’re having a great impact.

And in the city of Suceava, the host lined up a big concert hall with a big PA system and lighting and the whole rock-star setup for us. About 350 people came to the show, and now, he has a TON of follow-up work to do as he engages them in further conversation about their faith. And since he lined us up with such a cool setup, we got some video – here’s one of the ‘classic’ songs we do in our outreach set…

Right now, we have 3 more shows in the next 3 days (and Saturday, we drive 9 hours and THEN play our final show of the tour!). So we’re getting close to the end, but have some long days ahead of us before we get home.

I’ll update more soon!

getting some press

blue sky nine got some coverage in a couple of publications this last month.

My understanding is that a writer from the Westfield Current (the newspaper in the town where Keynote is located) drove by our offices, got curious about us, made some calls, and wanted to do a story. He ended up interviewing me via phone while I was in Kansas on tour, and spoke to some others around the offices, and then wrote a really cool cover-story article about us that ran last week.

That’s the cover (click to enlarge it); here’s a link to a PDF file of the article:

Also, back in February, a magazine called ‘Worldwide Challenge’ (which is a publication of Campus Crusade) sent a writer and a photojournalist on tour with us; the story ran last month as well. Here are links to the online version of the story:

Pretty cool. Both magazines did a great job telling our story – in fact, I am now going to give away copies of these articles whenever we speak to people about our work… :-)
