This post is a link (below) to an article about Artists and the Church. When I was 8, I became a musician, and when I was 18, I became a Christ-follower, and it took all of about 3 weeks in the church-o-sphere for me to realize the (sad) truth of these observations.
Vocationally, I work with a team of missional artists who use beauty and artistry to create a vision of the world that should be. Part of the reason I refer to that as ‘dodging traffic in the intersection of art and mission‘ is because of the truths in this article. (I’ll write about the other part in the future, maybe.)
If you know me, you’ll understand that I don’t mind at all that this piece takes a slightly sarcastic tone. Even though couched in the negative, it ultimately reminds me of why I am passionate about the work I get to do. Because I am called to it, created for it, and because it matters.
So… here’s the link. How to Discourage Artists in the Church.
