Okay. It’s all over the news. The organization we work for, Campus Crusade for Christ, is re-branding. We’re changing our name. It’s been a long time coming, and there are several reasons for it.
Absolutely nothing has changed about our mission. But evidently, the name change is a pretty big deal. After the announcement, the web traffic caused a national trend in the Twitter social networking world, and the story has been reported (with varying degrees of sensationalism) by Christianity Today, Fox News, The Huffington Post, many other news outlets, and countless websites, blogs and discussion forums.
Some people think it’s great, some think we’ve lost our minds, and some think we’ve lost our bearing.
We’re now going to be called, simply, ‘Cru’.

You may have a lot of questions about why we changed, and what the name means (or doesn’t), and all that. But, first and foremost, here’s what I want you to know.
I believe in this. This is a good decision, and I honestly believe it will help us more meaningfully take the gospel to people.
This isn’t simple, but I believe is is the right move. I’d love to talk to you more if you have questions or concerns. There are ways all over this site for you to contact me if you’d like to talk more.

Thanks,
- Scott

Before the crush of Keynote’s Summer Project erases all the extra time in my life, I wanted to shoot an update.
blue sky nine, the band I’ve been leading and touring with for the last 3 and a half years, is coming to something of an end. Our lead singer Laura is getting married and will move to Michigan, and we’re going to take some downtime to evaluate our touring strategies to make sure we’re being the best trustees of all the resources it takes to do our work.
We see God move in incredible ways through our concerts, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find ways to improve, expand, and become more effective. And that sort of thinking is what leads to the latest change, which is that I have been asked to step into the role of Director of Artists for Keynote.
I know how to lead teams. I know how to arrange music and play guitar and share my story and all the mechanical things that go into leading a band. But… overseeing the artistic efforts of a ministry with a 45-year track record of using music and performing arts to share the gospel all over the world?
That’s gonna take some work, and I’ll take all the prayers I can get.
I have no passion to be the guy who came up with the next great idea or band or song or strategy for our ministry. I have a ton of passion for being the guy who listens to God and leads boldly. I’m excited to enter a new season of finding ways to use art to bring faith into the conversation on campuses, military bases, prisons, concert halls, and wherever.
I’m still going to be doing concerts and tours, though - I have no intention of coming off of the ‘front lines’. We’re taking a team on a 4-city tour of India this fall, and there are other projects in the works as well.
We’ll keep you updated…

OK, so I admit that I sometimes syndicate my own content across several mediums. So instead of just filling in the same stuff here that I did on blue sky nine’s website, I am just gratuitously pointing to it here so I don’t have to even more gratuitously cross-post it. Click the link below:
Was it something we said?
Seriously. It’s worth a look. This might be the weirdest after-show comment I’ve ever seen.
